Audience

The audience we are trying to reach for our music video would age between 15+. This is because of the language used in the lyrics of the song. The song includes strong language that may not be suitable for younger ages and they may not be able to understand the context of the language either. The song talks about drinking alcohol and so younger teens would not be able to legally relate as they can not legally drink.

We expect the audience to enjoy up beat music and the Hip Hop/Rap genre of music.

We also expect them to either dance or enjoy to watch dancing being performed. As we include a large amount of dancing in our music video.

Today's Lesson 18/10/12

The first thing we did in the lesson was edit the dance routines we filmed last lesson as we thought this was the most difficult. We layered each clip to make sure we are making use of every clip as well as having quick cuts.

Filming Dance Routine_Take 2

These are some shots from the re-filming of the dance routine, we decided to film in addenbrokes parking lot and the stairs leading up, as we were sure not to get interrupted, plus it will help with the Urban/ Street approach that we are looking for.

Hey There Deliah Influence.

The music video for Hey There Deliah by Plain White T's influenced us for some editing techniques, which is the splitting they have in the video. It keeps the video interesting giving you more to look at and more to find. So we have decided to do this in our video, for example when the artist is singing the chorus we will have three frames, the larger frame will have the artist singing in and the other two small squares will have random little snippets, such as location pans, dancing, chilling etc.

Day 1 of filming

We caught the bus from addenbrookes at 3pm which took us to the Grafton Centre bus stop for 3:20. This was convenient for us as we filmed outside and needed enough time to film using the natural light.

Roles

Max: His role at our filming location was to be the artist. This involved rapping, singing and dancing in front of the camera in a confident way in order to sell his star persona.

Drew: He was the camera guy, taking still shots of the location, costumes and possible shots for our digital pack.

Kisu: Her role was to do the filming and making sure we have enough different shots at each location. It was also her role to make sure the artist (max) looks right for the image we are trying to sell.

Once we were on top of the car park we scouted around for other shots, such as landscape pans etc, and did our safety check, we made sure to notice any hazards which could endanger us, only ones are the obvious, cars and the heigh of the parking lot. We were concerned about permission up there as we arrived there was a guard on top, we made it clear we were filming as we were carrying around the camera, he just gave us the nod to say it was fine and left and we didnt get anymore hassle.

The first shot was a pan across the parking lot from a higer level with our star walking across. This shot is the one where I am going to try the effect on, where after he has stepped some graffiti will appear on the floor behind, I am going to attempt this because it helps sell the star's street/urban side. The inspiration for this is found here

The reason we filmed in a parking lot as it's considered quite urban and streety, plus it had a great view of the city and sky which helped in some shots, we moved around when we filmed to get different perspectives, we also had the star change clothes to make it seem refreshing, alot of music videos also have costume changes.

Overall I don't think we had many problems during the shooting, apart from confidence issues with the rapping.

File Problem

I came across a problem while I was trying to get a clip home to work on, we used a website to transfer the video clip via email, during this process the file got corrupted making it useless on my computer. The reason I needed this clip at home is because I have After Effects CS6 which has the plugin I need, 3D Camera Tracker.

For the mean time I am downloading a trial of After Effects CS6 onto the Mac in class to do the effect and test it in class while i try and get it home, as I would find it easier to work on a PC rather than a Mac.

Update: The Mac couldnt download the trial for After Effects CS6, luckily I found a memory stick which is big enough for the file.

Update: I managed to get the file home, but it turns out the video could only be read by Macs and would not work on my computer, the only way now to overcome this now is to convert it to a Avi on the mac and then try and send it home.

Filming Dance Routine

This is on scene pictures for the dance routine for our music video choreographed by Kisu.

This is our group filming kisu dance rountine with her pals. this was outside the studio in long road sixth form college.

Update we decided not to use these shots as the location looked a bit cheesy and didn't go with the urban star persona we are trying to show. We decided to film somewhere a bit more street, such as a car park or streets.

Single Cover Photo's

For our single cover shot we wanted the artist in front of a cityscape or a sunset, with him silhouetted with his arms spread out almost saying this is mine. We managed to get some photos where we were filming which was perfect.

These shots look great by themselves without any editing done to them. It helps with his star persona as a hip-hop artist and looking street with his hoody, hat and trainers.

Connecting the Lyrics to the Visual

These are the Lyrics of the song. The words highlighted yellow in the lyrics are the specific words we want to enhance in the video by literally showing something in the video that relates to the word. This may be by an action or showing the word in action: for example, like showing a a square if the lyric was squares. We are going to emphasis words such as you me and I in order to connect with the audience more so it seems as though our artist is talking directly to them.

Her phone broke cuz she was sneaking bottles in the purse
the liquor fall over freaking down that was even worse
he said come but ya gotta sneak in though
if he a mac then why he make you use the window
girl his mother living there
you too old for scramble quit messing with them squares
my
house can be your first perv supporter so before you go further yes

You can get drunk, and you can get faded
if you tryna fuck, we could do it anyways
gone get drunk, my house like Vegas
but no police, only if you tryna taste it
you could roll one up if you want to
aww this is my house
roll one up if you want to
aww this is my house
want to (x 3) do you want to
want to (x 3) do you want to (hey)

The sky go on what i say goes

You can get drunk, and you can get faded
if you tryna fuck, we could do it anyways
gone get drunk, my house like Vegas
but no police, only if you tryna taste it
you could roll one up if you want to
aww this is my house
roll one up if you want to
aww this is my house
want to (x 3) do you want to
want to (x 3) do you want to (hey)

Max story boarding

this is the infamous max carter story boarding for our music video witch we are planning on shooting tomorrow afternoon/evening. He is also memorizes the song for are music video. Legacy -  My house.

The story board wasn't completely accurate, as things changed, such as camera angles and shot durations, but a lot of the basics are still there, such as the video split. The breakdancing was still in the same place on top of the car park, but the routine with the girls has been filmed in a different location.

Possible Locations

The grand Arcade Car Park level 6.
Singing and break dancing scenes will be on the top level of the car park.

The above is where we will place the camera for the first shot, we will film the singer walking along the car park below, panning, this is the opening shot where the graffiti will appear on the floor to show the urban/hip-hop message he is trying to convey.

These shots show where we will be based throughout the video, including the rapping, some dancing and just clothing shots, this is also where we will shoot the album cover. We chose this location as it has a good backdrop and shows the city. Its almost as if he is saying the city is 'his'.
